WORLD PARITY REPORT | AUGUST WAVE 2024

The overall performance for August remains positive, continuing the trend observed in the last two waves. Disparity cases have been maintained within a stable range, with only minimal changes detected between the “Beat” and “Meet” categories. This behavior suggests that hoteliers are effectively managing the summer period pricing strategies to optimize their revenue during the high season.

We can compare the graphs from August to June to observe changes over a longer period, but the results remain consistent when compared to July.

OTAs

The trend is further confirmed by the behavior of OTAs, which continue to show slight variations between the “Beat” and “Meet” categories.

Notably, some players such as Traveloca and CheapHotelsHub, have dropped out of the top 15, making room for new entrants like Qantas Hotels and Catchit.com.

Significant changes include Bluepillow‘s 12-point drop in its “Beat” rate, shifting these points to the “Lose” category. Similarly, Vio has dropped 7 points from both its Beat and Meet categories increasing its “Lose” cases. GoSeek also saw a decline, with 6 points dropping from Beat and 7 from Meet, resulting in a 13-point increase in the Lose category compared to the June wave.

As we can see, the smaller OTAs are ramping up their price undercutting as the high season progresses.

DESTINATIONS

In terms of destinations, there are a few noteworthy shifts.

Berlin experienced a 15-point drop in Beat cases, with almost all shifting to the Meet category.

Cairo saw an 18-point drop from Beat to Meet, and Macau experienced a significant 25-point decline from Beat to Meet.

While the overall trend remains positive, these cities are on the verge of crossing into the “Lose” category due to small but notable price differences. Additionally, Palma dropped 12 points from Beat while increasing by 9 points in Lose cases, and Frankfurt, which had shown strong results in previous waves, now drops 17 points from Beat while growing 10 points in Lose cases. These two destinations are the most significant in this latest wave.
