When it comes to hotel bookings, the concept of “Travel Tuesday” has been widely celebrated—but does the data actually support it?

Analyzing search and booking trends reveals a fascinating story: Monday slightly edges out Tuesday—but how meaningful is this difference?

Key Insights from the Data:

1) Mondays Dominate Searches and Bookings:

  • Mondays account for 16.29% of total searches, the highest of any day.
  • Bookings on Monday also peak at 16.55%, slightly outpacing Tuesday.

2)  Tuesday: A Close Second:

  • While Monday leads in both searches and bookings, Tuesday follows closely with 15.74% of searches and 16.12% of bookings.
  • The slight difference indicates that Tuesday is also a strong day for travel decisions but doesn’t significantly outshine Monday in conversions.

3) Weekends See Lower Activity:

  • Search and booking activity drops notably on Saturday, with only 11.12% of searches and 11% of bookings.
  • Sunday shows moderate engagement (13.2% of searches, 13.21% of bookings) but doesn’t rival the intensity of early-week activity.

Across countries, Monday consistently emerges as the most active day for travel searches, followed by Tuesday:

When exploring travel search trends across countries, Spaniards are most active on Monday, which accounts for 16.28% of total searches, closely followed by Tuesday at 15.67%

The United States  also shows peak activity on Monday with 16.38% of searches, dropping slightly to 14.48% on Tuesday. Similarly, the United Kingdom mirrors this trend, with Monday at 16.22% and Tuesday at 15.69%.

In Portugal (PT), search behavior aligns closely with Spain, with Monday at 16.29% and a slight decrease to 16% on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Germany (DE) follows the same pattern, peaking on Monday with 16.67% before gradually declining during the rest of the week.

The Final Word: It’s Not About the Day, It’s About the Momentum

While Monday holds a slight advantage in search and booking activity, the difference is marginal. In practical terms, both days show nearly equal strength in driving travel decisions. The idea of “Travel Tuesday” may not be as data-driven as we once thought, but travelers resonate with it.

Rather than crowning one day over the other, the real insight is this: early in the week—Monday and Tuesday together—is when travelers are most engaged.

So, while Monday might technically win the numbers game, it doesn’t diminish the value of Travel Tuesday. Together, these two days form the perfect duo to capture and convert.
